This was the episode that fully cemented my love of the show. The first episode was amusing, mildly intriguing but this was the episode that appeals to the 'I wish I could run away somewhere lovely' in me.

Laura, Miranda and Rupert attempt to come to terms with their new life. Naturally unfamiliar with Pearl Bay and its inhabitants, Laura is baffled by the strangeness of Pearl Bay's townsfolk. Karen the police prosecutor is first seen in bridal wear and from all appearances, the young policewoman is more interested in bridal magazines, hair-dressing, persuading her lackadasial boyfriend Angus to wed her. Angus, Laura's law clerk is more interested in the surf than the law and spends his time either surfing or rationalising his peculiar relationship with Karen.

The first day in court is a day for surprises. Much to her dismay, Laura's first case is the previous magistrate, Harold Fitzwalter whose attempt to get back at Bob has landed him in court. Bob Jelly is equally horrified to discover that the woman he has conned is the new magistrate. This catapults him into inviting Laura over for a casual lunch while his minions attempt to dig up the dirt on Laura's past.

Rupert meets the brainless, blond, benignant Craig Jelly and Miranda is forced to endure the vain, solipsistic musings of Jules Jelly. It is quite clear that Bob Jelly is an influential man in town.

As Laura slowly acclimatises, she becomes intrigued by Diver Dan (the kerchiefed one) with gourmet culinary skills, a scruffy exterior and a dry witty manner. In his own laid back way, Dan appears as interested in the floundering fish out of water Laura Gibson as she is in him.
