Messenger discussion between Pocket and Koala on Equilibrium
WARNING: MASSIVE SPOILERS
Pocket: Equilibrium
was good
Pocket: I enjoyed it
Koala: you finished it?
Pocket: yup did tonight
Pocket: loved the gun kata
Koala: I liked the polygraph. When it went flat
Pocket: And loved how he kills Taye Diggs. Made me laugh
Koala: And he goes: No not without incident. And then he says : "I'm coming".
I was like: Woohoo! :D
Pocket: Then it's like Matrix with the pillars
Koala: I think it's different from Matrix though
Pocket: but the costumes were cool
Pocket: guns were cool
Koala: I think Bale is a better actor than Keanu
Pocket: I thought it was more brave new world
Koala: like when he realises that he's been tricked etc, I wanted to cry - he
just looked so devastated. When Father was being all mean and going nyah nyah.
I didn't even mind being manipulated by the puppy dog scene :D
Pocket: Hehe. His daughter was cute. His son was scary lookin’
Koala: Yes. Also his character I think.
Koala: Sean Bean was killed. Poor him. He's like Sean Pertwee. Always gets killed
Pocket: Hehe
Pocket: In this movie Sean Pertwee was already dead
Koala: I was surprised that he didn't rescue the girl. She got bbq'd
Pocket: I knew she'd be bbqed. it was what would set him off
Koala: I know, I couldn't believe he broke down and cried in public
Koala: I also like the kendo scene. That was cool
Pocket: Yeah. The kendo was cool
Koala: They had to do most of their own fights b/c the production was pov
Pocket: The whole clerics thing was cool . Except Taye Diggs was not that good.
kinda.. Wooden and stupid looking. So not remorseful when he gets his face sliced
off
Koala: Hah, I liked it that he was so arrogant and then splat
Koala: He dead.
Pocket: Yeah. 3 slices. That was great
Koala: I liked the look on father's face. did you see it? He's kind of going.
"Oh dear
Pocket: The gun kata was soo cool
Koala: oh I liked the first scene. When he rushes through the door. And you
see black
Pocket: that fight at the end was cool
Pocket: And how he just blows Father away. Or how he kills all the other clerics
Koala: oh yeah after the puppy dog scene?
Pocket: no they weren't clerics. Clerics were dudes like him
Koala: oh yeah you're right
Pocket: the others were just.. I dunno, storm troopers
Koala: sweepers. That’s right, they want to look in his boot. And then
he grabs their rifles. And does a flippy thing
Pocket: the grey coat clerics were like the ok ones and black coat ones were
the primo top shit ones
Pocket: yeah that's cool
Koala: yeah the fight scenes were cool. I liked the scene when he heard Beethoven
too
Koala: I felt sad for him. I could believe that he was feeling emotion for the
first time and wasn't coping very well
Pocket: yeah
Koala: well yeah that's why Preston is believable
Pocket: yeah
Koala: if all your life you feel nothing and then suddenly you feel
Koala: it must be overwhelming
Pocket: I felt particularly intense today watching it this morning
Koala: there's lots of little things they did b/c of cost - eg when he peels
the paper off the window
Pocket: strutted into work all in black. Scowled a lot
Pocket: ;)
Koala: he was supposed to be on a rooftop but they couldn’t afford that.
so they improvised. Had him peeling paper off a window instead.
Pocket: it was good. I like the director's comments
Pocket: like "ok, so they're not all zombies"
Koala: oh you listened too?
Pocket: hopefully the audience will deal with it
Pocket: no just watched some of the making ofs
Koala: he sounds a bit sad at the end he talks about how the movie got KILLED
by the critics
Pocket: yeah
Koala: it only ran for 2 weeks in the cinemas
Pocket: dunno why it got the arse so much
Koala: never even made it to Australia
Koala: and people in the States are having lots of problems getting the DVD.
Koala: whereas in HK it's in every dvd store and even blockbuster is renting
it out.
Koala: I think EQ is more than an action film though
Koala: although the action sequences were cool :D
Koala: like when he takes out the second set of sweepers
Koala: "he's a sense offender!" and those weird things come out of
his gun
Koala: little hooky things :)
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: so he uses them like tonfas
Koala: I like it that it's so melodramatic
Koala: very strike a pose
Koala: I kick your ass
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: he likes standing there with lights behind him a lot
Koala: when he hurtles through the door and stands in blackness
Koala: that's arrogant man
Pocket: yeah that happens several times
Pocket: gun kata rocks;)
Koala: haha
Koala: yeah but the diagram cracked me up
Pocket: why I thought it was cool
Koala: there are 3 websites for EQ on the web
Koala: only 3
Koala: :)
Koala: Link: http://www.freewebs.com/equilibrium-movie/
Koala: that's the best one.
Koala: well Preston looks so graceful when he does the gun kata
Pocket: yup
Koala: at the end I was going as if though
Pocket: it looks good slow and fast
Koala: you know when he rolled his thingies on the floor
Pocket: yeah
Koala: almost like he was anticipating?
Pocket: thought they were bombs, or would shoot the dudes
Pocket: but much cooler with them being magazines
Pocket: and the way they reload too was cool from the wrist
Koala: well in the puppy dog scene when he grabs the two rifles, apparently
no one else could do it
Koala: oh yeah Taye dropped his at the end
Koala: when his face fell off
Koala: muahahaha
Pocket: yeah he cracked me up
Koala: when the flunky goes: "Oh shit" and looks at the polygraph.
Hee hee. :)
Koala: I've watched it quite a few times as you can tell
Koala: :D
Koala: with both commentaries :)
Pocket: yeah I watched the action scenes several times
Koala: Head of the resistance looks like a fish
Pocket: Yeah he's in lotsa stuff
Pocket: Sorta the Christopher Walken wannabe
Koala: Dupres (real father guy) was in Braveheart
Koala: he was Robert the Bruce
Pocket: he looks like the dude in Long Kiss Goodnight
Pocket: "she has your eyes"
Koala: but have you noticed on the back cover? They flipped the photo
Pocket: yah
Koala: she was lying on the table
Koala: but now it's sideways and her hair defies gravity
Koala: :D
Koala: watch the trailer again that I sent you. They got it wrong. The director
says it too. The trailer makes it look like a revenge flick. The system killed
his wife - now he wants revenge :D
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: The line where he goes "not my friends, I killed him" that
was powerful
Pocket: Sean Bean looked good as a cleric though
Pocket: not so grubby as Boromir
Koala: I also liked "I'm sorry"
Koala: "You don’t know what sorry means, it's just a vestigial word
for a feeling you’ve never felt"
Koala: Bean steals Yeats poetry. Preston steals mother goose :D
Pocket: Hehe
Pocket: well.. maybe bean stole mother goose initially and moved up to yeats
Koala: haha
Koala: well Preston might be a little bit slow
Koala: he sniffs ribbons after all
Koala: I'm dubious about men who do that
Koala: or the bit when Taye goes - why do they keep dogs? Do they eat them?
Koala: The director said that the puppy was the dumbest dog in the world
Koala: but it was so cute!
Koala: I liked the way they filmed that scene when they were shooting the dogs?
Pocket: yeah it was very cute
Koala: and you see Christian Bale flinching.
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: it's sorta hard to believe society would go towards that so the story
was a LIL kinda.. blatant
Pocket: like I said, felt it was trying a LIL too hard to be a brave new world
Koala: simplistic
Pocket: but.. but was stylish- could have been a demolition man clone but it
wasn't
Koala: I thought it was a simple storyline but what it did it did well and the
acting was good and considering it was low budget and a first film, it was cool.
I didn't like Christian Bale before this movie.
Pocket: I know they tried to also add comparisons to minority report
Koala: It came out before minority report.
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: I liked it better
Koala: yes. you are my brother
Koala: you can stay my brother :D
Koala: I thought you would enjoy it too
Koala: I was so frustrated though b/c no one has seen it. No one to talk to
about the movie.
Koala: I have been bursting :D
Pocket: minority report should have ditched the pre cogs part and just left
it to a machine that could pick em, and gotten rid of the so called "twist"
with his boss being the bad dude and all and just concentrated on being a kinda
stylish flick
Koala: well this storyline was more simple.
Koala: but it worked.
Pocket: instead it coulda been sweet as, but ended up being ho hum
Pocket: yeah
Pocket: costumes very cool
Koala: thing is
Pocket: well cleric and sweeper ones
Koala: how could the kids hide it for so long?
Koala: and also am I right that the kid calls Preston "dad" at one
point?
Koala: when he's half asleep?
Pocket: nope
Pocket: not that I heard
Koala: there's a bit when Preston’s going through his son's drawer and
looking at his interval dosage
Pocket: I’ll view it again
Pocket: yeah I know
Koala: I'm almost sure he says: night dad and Preston gets a weird look on his
face.
Pocket: his son was freaky
Koala: cos normally his son calls him sir.
Pocket: I thought he said "good night then"
Koala: yeah have we seen the son before?
Pocket: yeah somewhere
Koala: the others?
Pocket: yeah that's it
Pocket: pale and pasty scary kid
Koala: heh. kid in about a boy is like that too. he's an ugly little thing.
Koala: I like it when a movie surprises me. I got EQ the same night as Two Weeks
Notice which was definitely not in the same league :) I think you remember -
that night I asked you which one I should watch first
Pocket: yup. I went with EQ didn't I?
Koala: yeah and to be honest
Koala: I was expecting another Ballistic doozey b/c I bought it for a similar
reason. cover looked kinda cool and funky so I was surprised when it was a good
movie :D
Pocket: yeah
Koala: I mean Ecks and Sever was so boring :)
Pocket: I read about it and it sounded ok
Koala: yeah I remember you told me someone died early
Pocket: except hearing sean bean dying straight away
Koala: you thought it was Christina Bale
Koala: Christian Bale even
Koala: Sean Bean's role was small but quite moving. He could have totally overacted
in that role. If it was Ben Affleck or Alec Baldwin .... they would be smelling
the fart sooooooo bad :D
Pocket: Alec Baldwin. Sheesh
Koala: yeah he was so bad in Pearl Harbor. but Sean Bean's character was semi
preachy and deep. so he could have overacted but he was good.
Koala: question though
Koala: you know how Preston dumps his Prozium on the ground and crushes it in
that scene when he's in a crowd? Why didn't he do it with all of his intervals?
Pocket: yup
Koala: what kind of moron hides it in the bathroom???
Pocket: well. Dramatic
Koala: heh
Pocket: maybe the glass got into his shoe
Koala: and the gun swap thing is totally flawed
Koala: it's a plot hole sooo big
Koala: doesn't make sense at all so I pretend it doesn't exist
