Frog and Koala
Koala:
i watched Maid in Manhattan last night. it was cute
Koala: I liked it better than Sweet Home Alabama...
Frog: it was cute, you did? I much preferred Sweet Home Alabama
Koala: my problem was that reese w's character seemed to stay
a manipulative, selfish user who used men to get where she wanted to get to
in life - emotionally and then dumped them. I mean even the politican guy wasn't
a bad guy. And I don't blame Candice Bergin's character at all - her son was
lied to and then dumped. Surely she could have told him earlier than right at
the alter!!!
Frog: that's true that was a bit of a dilemma. But basically
she did not know
Koala: true, but I just didn't feel like she became a nice
person even at the end. The guys were too good for her .... Pocket agreed. We
both hated Reese w's character. Sort of - even her old hick husband was ok in
the end b/c he had a business and now had money so he was validated as a person
Koala: grrrr
Frog: oh dear
Koala: yes oh dear all right! We were all set for a sweet ohhhhhh
kind of movie - and emerged angry
Koala: :D
Frog: see I loved it so much, though it was a dilemma which
one she would choose

Cat and Koala
Koala:
Frog was horrified that I liked Maid in Manhattan more than Sweet
Home Alabama
Koala: She didn't understand the level of loathing Pocket and
I have for Sweet Home Alabama :)
Cat: i'm horrified too .. Maid in Manhattan was pretty
trashy .. it was a nice way to spend an hour and a half but real chewing gum
..
Koala: but at least she didn't use men and spit them out and
dump them at the alter right at the last minute
Koala: and then resort to physical violence when a mother was
merely upset that her son had been dumped
Cat: hmm yeah .. but that dress was atrocious ..
Cat: Ifound her so much more spirited than Jennifer Lopez ..
Koala: :D
Cat: the best thing i can say about her character was that
she at least has a real figure ..
Cat: jennifer lopez that is ..
Koala: i quite liked Ralph Fiennes
Cat: well yeah ..
Cat: Ralph Fiennes was fabulous ..
Koala: the problem I had
with Reese was she didn't really grow
Koala: she was the same at the end
Cat: no she wasn't ..
Koala: Pocket and I will be writing scathing reviews for Sweet
Home Alabama :D
Cat: if she was the same at the end she would have chosen the
New York Guy ..
Cat: she might have owned up to her deception but she would
have stayed with the New York Guy
Koala: no b/c it was ok to be with the original guy - he had
money now after all so everything was fine
Cat: it wasn't the money .. it was the fact that he decided
to make something of himself ..
Koala: I mean the problem was I think that the fiance wasn't
a bad guy
Cat: she was more interested in doing something with her life
..
Koala: they didn't make him a villain
Koala: so the way she left it right until the last minute to
tell him made it a bit difficult in terms of her character
Cat: there was nothing wrong with him .. but she didn't love
him, she was just using him ..
Koala: and the way she pretty much abandoned her parents all
those years and then suddenly it was all ok, She was just a brat. at least jennifer
lopez just made honest mistakes :D
Koala: hee hee
Cat: the whole point was that her new york life was running
away from who she really was ..
Cat: yeah but she was pretty wet ..
Koala: hee hee
Koala: you might want to revisit your reviews after I write
mine :D
Cat: there was nothing wrong w maid in manhattan .. it just
didn't have much substance ..
Koala: that was ok b/c that's what I expected
Koala: SHA I expect more b/c RW is normally much more layered
Koala: her character didn't grow as much as I expected. She
was much more lovable in Legally Blonde
Cat: umm .. Legally Blonde was layered?
Koala: yes. even though it was a frivololous film, her character
was lovable in spite of things
Koala: kind of like Bridget Jones' Diary
Cat: i think u were just expecting too much ..
Koala: ordinarily I would detest that sort of character but
they're likeable /lovable anyway. I didn't find RW lovable in Sweet Home
Alabama at all
Cat: sha was just as frivolous ..
Koala: by the end we were going: Err - manipulative, shallow,
selfish little bitch
Cat: u guys are way too harsh .. it was just a bit of fluff
..
Koala: :D
Koala: Frog loved Sweet Home Alabama too so I'm on
my own on this one
Cat: :-D
Koala: the two cats vs koala
Koala: ;)
Cat: hee hee ..
Cat: at least we can agree to disagree ..
Koala: hee hee.
Cat: it didn't blow me away but i preferred it to Maid
in Manhattan ..
Cat: they were both as predictable as hell .. but Maid
in Manhattan just reminded me of Pretty Woman too much ..
Koala: that's true
Koala: and J-Lo was just being J-Lo
Cat: giggle .. yeah .. i've seen her in films that i've enjoyed
..
Cat: but i think they were all dramas ..
Koala: out of sight is probably the only one I really liked
Koala: oh - The Wedding Planner was sweet .... but
bad :)
Cat: okay .. The Cell was not a pleasant film .. but
i enjoyed it ..
Cat: oh yeah that's right .. i quite enjoyed that one ..
